Introduction:

Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) vision is to exercise the scientometric leadership and assessment among Islamic countries and to enjoy a high standing and an alignment with the prestigious citation centers and ranking institutes. In order to achieve ISC’s 1404 prospect, and according to the goals and policies introduced by Vice-presidency in Research Affairs at ISC, the Department of Statistics was established as an independent section in September 2019.

Department of Statistics pursues these significant goals: assessing quantitative and qualitative research performance of researchers, universities, organizations and countries, (specifically Iran and other Islamic countries) based on citation analyses; ongoing monitoring of  scientific standing of countries, organizations and researchers (specifically Iran and other Islamic countries) to inform about the gaps, weaknesses, and strengths in diverse scientific fields; surveying the nature of scientific collaborations or international participation of Iran and other Islamic countries in diverse scientific fields; specifying the contribution of each country, university and organization to world’s scientific outputs (nationally or internationally); identifying the leading top 1% researchers of Iran and other Islamic countries based on ESI database and presenting statistical and citation analyses of their research performance; studying the relationship among diverse scientific spheres and interdisciplinary communications; conducting statistical and citation analyses based on organization, university or institution’s requests; producing in-depth reports on position, trend and progress of science and technology in organizations and countries specifically in Iran and other Islamic countries based on WOS (Web of Science), SCOPUS, and ISC databases, and last but not least, designing and implementing data-driven products.

Department Responsibilities:

• Producing the statistics and data of scientific products of Iran and other Islamic countries
• Surveying quantitative and qualitative scientific products and international collaborations of Iran and other Islamic countries to present citation analyses
• Producing the statistics and information of scientific products of Iran and other Islamic countries in accordance with the data present in ISC databases
• Updating statistics of ISC databases
• Designing and developing data-driven products
• Producing and presenting statistics based on organizations, universities, and institutions’ requests
• Identifying the leading top 1% Iranian researchers based on ESI database and presenting statistical and citation analyses of their research performance

• Extracting information and statistics of the selected world universities and organizations
• Producing statistics related to scientific status and products of countries, organizations, and researchers among diverse scientific fields
• Presenting analytical reports and citation analyses of countries, organizations, authors and journals
• Performing data and text mining to analyze data extracted from citation databases
• Meeting the informational and statistical needs of other ISC departments
• Producing documentation and process reports
