According to the information extracted from Scopus citation database in 2019, there has been a 59% increase in Iranian scientific journals impact compared to 2018.

Each year, Scopus citation database introduces the most prestigious scientific journals in the world, and accordingly, 2019 version, has been published recently. This list has been published when the scientific journals’ volumes and issues have been completed by the end of that year.

On this basis, Impact plays an important part in understanding the performance of a journal over time and making decisions about its future. It is impossible to get a true picture of impact using a single metric alone, so a basket of metrics is needed to support informed decisions.

Today Elsevier is launching CiteScore metrics: a new standard that gives a more comprehensive, transparent and current view of a journal’s impact that will help you guide your journal more effectively in the future.

CiteScore metrics are part of the Scopus basket of journal metrics that includes SNIP (Source Normalized Impact per Paper), SJR (SCImago Journal Rank), citation- and document- counts and percentage cited. The integration of these metrics into Scopus provides insights into the citation impact of more than 22,220 titles.

Citations show the extent to which science has been produced, and citations for scientific journals indicate the extent to which the articles in these journals have been used in the scientific community. Citations, like other phenomena, are plagued. Managing citations and self-citations of publications are immoral ways used to show the increasing effectiveness of publications. Citation databases have become more sensitive to these methods, and even now the level of self-citation has become a basic factor in the selection or not of the world's top researchers.

In 2019, 167 publications from Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) have been indexed in Scopus, of which 159 journals have succeeded in receiving CiteScore. This means that 5% of the journals do not have a CiteScore, but 99 of them have received a higher CiteScore than in 2018, which means that the citation rate to this group has increased, which includes 59% of the journals. 28 journals, i.e. 17% of journals, remained unchanged, but 24% of these journals, i.e. 40 publications, had a decrease in quality compared to the previous year.

The value of indexing in a citation database depends on the number of citations received by Iranian publications, both English and non-English journals. Also, the number of citations received by non-English publications is not comparable to English publications in citation databases. Whereas the continued presence of indexed publications in citation databases is subject to citation; Increasing citations is inevitable.
