333 Iranian researchers among the most cited researchers in humanities, social sciences and arts
The Islamic World Science and Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC) has been annually relying on its information sources and databases, identifies the most cited researchers in the subject areas of humanities, social sciences and arts, and in this report, the most cited researchers in these fields have been gathered through 10 past years (2010-2020).
This analysis begins by identifying a list of the most cited researchers in each field using software methods. In the next step, through disambiguation and homogenization of this list, which leads to the identification of many people with the same name or the same people with different names has been done. Researchers in each field are sorted according to the number of citations they have received, and then highly cited researchers are considered as scientific elites in humanities, social sciences, and arts based on the citation threshold. The criterion for selecting researchers in this list is the number of citations referred to their scientific productions.
The number of 333 top researchers in humanities, social sciences and arts have been identified by ISC and categorized in 16 subjective areas of humanities, social sciences and arts. It is worth noting that some researchers obtain the necessary points in several subject areas, which are placed separately in a multi-disciplinary area.
Based on this, about 16% of these researchers belong to the multidisciplinary fields. There are business, management and accounting researchers (about 12%). The subject areas of social sciences and educational sciences each have about 7% of researchers and are ranked in the third place. The rest of the researchers are related to 13 other subject areas of sociology and political sciences, psychology, economic sciences, language and linguistics, theology and Islamic education, historical sciences, language and literature, law, philosophy, geographical sciences, information science, epistemology and art and architecture.

The following table shows the share of the number of highly cited researchers of each university in humanities, social sciences and arts. As can be seen Tehran University, Allameh Tabatabai University, Isfahan University and Tarbiat Modares University have the highest number in this list. It should be noted that currently some researchers have at least two organizational affiliations and the following statistics are only based on the main affiliation.
