“D-8 and ISC's Joint Webinar on Introduction of ISC's Services for Experts, Researchers and Policymakers in the D-8 Member States” held virtually on July 10th, 2023.

The webinar was targeted toward rectors and vice rectors of universities; editor-in chiefs and staff of scientific journals; researchers and academicians, experts from industries; journal accreditation systems; university ranking systems; and policymakers from the D-8 Member States, particularly those who were interested in availing themselves of ISC’s services and enhancing the quality and visibility of their scientific research.

The webinar has been conducted virtually, with the presentations by ISC representatives on various services offered by the center, followed by a Q&A session.

The speakers in this webinar were the D-8 Secretary-General, the President of ISC (Opening Remarks), and panel presentation by experts from ISC and D-8 Member States.

 

The expected outcomes were as follows:

 

  1. A better understanding of ISC and its role in promoting science, research, technology and innovation in the Islamic world and utilizing this knowledge for promoting cooperation among the D-8 Member States in related fields.
  2. Awareness of the services and products offered by ISC and how they can provide D-8 Member States with grounds to promote their status of science, research, technology and innovation in their respective countries and the world.
  3. Gaining inspiration to collaborate with ISC to enhance the visibility and impact of their scientific research.
  4. Cohesiveness of the academic world in the D-8 region.

 

 

This webinar provided an excellent opportunity for researchers, academicians, and policymakers from the D-8 Member States to learn about the services and capacities of the Islamic World Science & Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC) and on how to use them. By participating in this webinar, they could benefit from ISC’s expertise in enhancing the visibility and impact of their scientific research through creating connections between the needs of society, public and private industry sectors, on one side, and researchers, knowledge-based and creative companies, science and technology parks and growth centers on the other.

 

The Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) is an inter-governmental organization established by Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Türkiye in 1997. Guided by its Charter, the D-8 objectives are to improve developing countries’ positions in the world economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at the international level, and provide a better standard of living. In so doing, the D-8 focused its cooperation in six priority areas, namely trade, energy, agriculture & food security, transportation, and tourism. Noting the global development, the D-8 also expanded its attention to information and communication technology, health, and human resources development.

 

 

Islamic World Science & Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC) is an internationally recognized center for scientific information services, established during the 4th Meeting of the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research held by ISESCO in Baku, Capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in 2008. As the third indexing system of the world, ISC aims to promote the visibility, impact, and quality of scientific research from the Islamic world by providing: essential citation analysis; tracing performance of universities, journals and faculty members and providing guidelines on how to improve it; university and journal ranking systems; science, technology and innovation platforms like Needs and Ideas Platform; ISC-ID to researchers of the Islamic countries; DOR (Digital Object Recognizer) code to journal articles; indexing of journals, and other related services.
