Based on the latest statistics of Thomson Reuters Institute (formerly ISI), Iran had the largest number of citations in environmental and ecological articles and papers in July.

Based on the latest statistics of Thomson Reuters Institute (formerly ISI), Iran had the largest number of citations in environmental and ecological articles and papers in July.
Prof. Jafar Mehrad, president of Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), told citation analysis is an important method for assessing generation of knowledge, which is used for assessing the scientific level of countries, institutions and scientists.
“Thomson Reuters Institute ranks scientists, publications, institutions and countries in terms of citations in 22 topics … Citation data pertain to the past 10 years and are upgraded every two months,” he said.
The official said based on the analysis of a list of “emerging stars” in each of the 22 topics pertaining to July, Serbia had the largest number of citations in agro sciences, biochemistry, clinical medicine, chemistry, materials science, psychiatry and aerospace sciences.
“For the same month, Lithuania had the largest citations for economy and commerce, Sri Lanka for geology, UAE for immunology, Iran for environment and ecology, Pakistan for mathematics and Tanzania for molecular biology and genetics,” he said.
Prof. Mehrad also said Iran had the largest citations for molecular biology and genetics for May.
The institutions worldwide with the largest number of citations include Xiangnan University, China (agro sciences), Medical University of Vienna (biology, biochemistry and immunology), Charles University in Prague (chemistry), Saitama Medical University, Japan (clinical medicine), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Lithuania (engineering), and GlaxoSmithKline Company, USA (psychological sciences).
