Information of 164 universities of Iran are examined in ISC’s ranking system

President of ISC stated that some of the questionnaires sent to the universities and research centers in 2011regarding ranking, are not sent back to ISC for evaluation.
“ Based on the last information, from the total number of 74 universities and research centers of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, 71 questionnaires were submitted to ISC completely” he said.
With regard to the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, only 29 medical universities from 34 ones were participated in ranking in 2011.
Moreover from 73 Azad universities in Iran, 64 of them cooperated with ISC in ranking.
Dr. Mehrad said: as a whole from the total number of 181 state and Azad universities for which the questionnaires were sent, only 164 questionnaires are processed by ISC’s ranking system.
As there are so many universities in Iran, the questionnaires were not sent to the small ones in 2011. he said a system is going to be designed entitled “university grading” which will be submitted to the Vice Ministry in Research Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, I. R. of Iran and after its approval, it will be used for small universities.
Difference between ranking and grading is that in ranking the universities are compared with each other based on their precedence, size, etc. In this condition the small universities can not compete with the large ones. While in grading, each university, either large or small, will be compared with itself and its grade will be considered as its credit.
