Iran’s share of World’s Highly-cited papers increased: Country’s Significant Improvement in Quality of Research

For the first time Iran’s quality of scientific publications has taken precedence over its quantity, Dr. Mohammad Javad Dehghani, President of Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) said.

“Iran’s share of world’s total number of highly-cited papers (qualitative indicator of research) has researched 2.1%, while its share of world’s total publication output volume (quantitative indicator of research) is 1.8%, which unveils country’s significant improvement in quality of research,” Dehghani said.

ESI tracks papers published in the last decade that rank in the top 1% most cited for their respective years of publication in each of 22 main subject fields. These articles are designated as “Highly Cited Papers”.

Based on highly-cited papers’ growth rate indicator, Iran has reached the second worldwide rank in 2015. The data on the number of 2016 papers is not complete yet and the number of highly-cited papers of the country are 128 ones up to this day.

World’s total scientific output volume (quantitative indicator of research) in 2016 is 1280000, while Iran’s is 22946. Accordingly, World’s total number of highly-cited papers (qualitative indicator of research) is 6168, while Iran’s is 128. It is noteworthy that the data on the number of 2016 papers is not complete yet.
