11 Universities of Iran among world’s top universities in 2017 U.S. News Ranking list

Dr. Mohammad Javad Dehghani, President of Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC), announced that the third annual U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings were produced to provide insight into how universities compare globally.

U.S. News is one of the most accredited ranking systems in the world. The overall Best Global Universities rankings encompass the top 1,000 institutions spread across 65 countries – up from the top 750 universities in 57 countries ranked last year.

U.S. News calculated the rankings using the 12 indicators and weights that U.S. News chose to measure global research performance. The indicators and their weights in the ranking formula are listed in the table below, with related indicators grouped together.

The bibliometric indicators used in the U.S. News ranking analysis are based on data from Web of ScienceTM for the five-year period from 2010 to 2014.

The number of top universities of Iran in 2017 is 11 ones while it was 8 in 2016. Sharif University of Technology, Tehran University, Isfahan University of Technology, Amirkabir University of Technology, Karaj Branch of Islamic Azad University, Iran University of Science & Technology, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tarbiat Modares University, Tabriz University, Ferdowsi University, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences have joined top 1000 universities of the world. While Tabriz University, Ferdowsi University, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences are 3 new entrants.

Iran's top Universities in U.S. News Ranking List



Sharif University of Technology has ranked first in Iran and 405 in the world. Karaj Branch of Islamic Azad University has experienced the most remarkable growth among Iranian universities over the last year rising from 736 to 629 global rank.



Iran with 11 top universities ranks second in Middle East after Turkey, while Israel and Saudi Arabia with 7 and 4 universities respectively rank third and fourth.
