Dr. Jafar Mehrad, President of the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology, explained the status of top world universities in 5 subject fields. He said that QS ranking system has investigated the status of universities of the world in 5 subject fields including Humanities and Arts, Biology and Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology, and Engineering Sciences.
Top world Universities in 5 Subject Fields/ Far East Universities are the Best in Asia

He declared that the QS university ranking system annually ranks world universities according to its own special criteria. It introduces the top 200 universities of the world. It also ranks world universities in different subject fields. This system ranks universities in five subject fields of Humanities and Arts, Biology and Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Technology, and Engineering Sciences.


Humanities and Arts

President of the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology said that in the year 2010, the 100 top universities were introduced of which 2 universities belong to England and 8 universities belong to the United States of America. He confirmed that in Humanities and Arts, Oxford and Cambridge universities are in the first and Second ranks respectively. Universities of Harvard, Berkeley, Yale, Princeton, UCLA, Stanford, Chicago, and Columbia are jointly in the third and fourth ranks.

The National University of Singapore has kept its 23 rank. Beijing University of China has the rank 24. This university was in the 16th rank in 2009.


Biology and Social Sciences

Dr. Mehrad announced that according to QS criteria, Harvard University is the top world university in Biology and Medical Sciences. Universities of Cambridge and Oxford with 92 and 82 scores are in the second and third ranks respectively.

Tokyo University of Japan is in the 6th rank. This university has risen to a higher rank in comparison with its 7th rank in the previous year. This university is in the same rank with John Hopkins University of the U.S.A.










Natural Sciences

Dr. Mehrad said that in Natural Sciences, Cambridge University is the top world university. Universities of Harvard and Oxford are the second and third of the world universities.

Tokyo University of Japan has earned the 13th rank. Beijing University of China is in the 21st rank in Natural Sciences. The National University of Singapore is in the 25th rank. Singapore is the third Asian country after Japan and China which has a top university in the field of Natural Sciences.


Social Sciences and Technology

President of the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology declared that Beijing University of China is in the 23rd rank in Social Sciences in 2010.

Of all Islamic countries, University of Indonesia is in the 27th rank in Social Sciences.



Engineering Sciences

M. I. T is the top world university in Engineering Sciences in 2010. Berkeley and Stanford are the second and third top universities in 2010.

Dr. Mehrad affirmed that Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay and Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi have respectively the 47th and 52nd ranks in the field of Engineering Sciences in 2010.
