Iranian science production grows in both WoS and Scopus

Based on the statistics and information available in both WoS and Scopus databases, the growth rate of science production in the last 8 years and also, each year, compared to the previous year has shown an increase.

It is observed that the growth rate of science production in each year compared to the previous year has also increased in both databases. In particular, science production escalation in WoS in 2012 was 4.1%, which decreased to 1.2 in 2013 and has always had an acceptable rise in 2014 and beyond. In 2019, compared to 2018, the growth rate of science production was 10.4%.

Iranian universities with a growth rate of 10.4% in 2019 were ranked second among the top 25 countries in the world after China with a growth rate of 12.%. Portugal, with 7.8 percent growth, is ranked third among the top 25 countries in the world. In Scopus, the highest growth rate of science production during the last 8 years took place in 2019 compared to 2018 and was 8.9%.

Iran's share in world science production in both WoS and Scopus has increased every year. In 2000, Iran scientific Share in science production was about 0.1%, which in 2019, and after 20 years, with a 20-fold increase in both Scopus and WoS has reached about 2%.

Meanwhile, 20 years ago, all Islamic countries science production share was about two percent, which in 2019 has increased to 9%.
