The ESI database is one of three citation-analysis products of ISI, subscribed to by Wageningen UR Library. ESI offers the possibility of putting the number of citations from articles into perspective, from the average number of citations from an article from a certain year on a certain discipline.
Regularly, (ESI) database publishes updates of the latest list of the world's top 1% of institutions that have received the most citations over the past 10 years. These universities and research centers in the world are in the top one percent in terms of the number of citations received. Citation in the world of science indicates the quality of scientific products. Therefore, the reason for the increase in the number of these centers is the increase in the quality of research in that country.
Shahid Madani University of Azerbaijan, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources of Gorgan, Kurdistan University, Malek Ashtar Industrial University, Babol University of Medical Sciences, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Gilan University of Medical Sciences, Kashan University of Medical Sciences, Qazvin Medical University are those Iraninan Universities newly entered to the world's 1% top cited UNIVERSITIES have arrived.
Among the country's universities and research institutes, 30 comprehensive universities, 26 medical universities, 12 industrial universities and 6 research centers were among the most effective in the world.
Among the comprehensive universities, respectively, are the universities of Urmia, Isfahan, Al-Zahra, Islamic Azad, Bu Ali Sina, Imam Khomeini, Payame Noor, Tabriz, Tarbiat Modares, Tehran, Persian Gulf, Razi, Zanjan. Semnan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Shahed, Shahrekord, Shahid Bahonar Kerman, Chamran Ahvaz, Civil Martyr of Azerbaijan, Shiraz, Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources of Korgan, Ferdowsi of Mashhad, Kashan, Kurdistan, Gilan, Mazandaran, Mohaghegh Ardabili, Yasuj and Yazd in the list are among the top one percent of the world.

Among Iranian research institutes, Polymer and Petrochemical Research Institute, Basic Knowledge Research Institute, University Jihad, Sina Surgery Research Center, Pasteur Institute of Iran and research centers located in the Ministry of Health and Medical Education are among the top one percent research institutes in the world.
